Teaching 3-D Drawing to Second Grade Using Wayne Theibaud

My student teacher has been teaching the 2nd Grade classes all about Wayne Theibaud's paintings. Wayne Theibaud loves using thick, brightly colored paint to make paintings of pies, cakes and ice cream.
The students began by learning how to draw basic three dimensional shapes and spent a class practicing drawing spheres, wedges, cylinders and cones.
In the next class, they started using the knowledge of three dimensional shapes to draw pictures filled with their favorite deserts.
Next they used oil pastels to add bright colors to their drawings.

That's a great idea for teaching basic shapes. I'll bet the kids loved drawing those desserts!

Now that is inspired teaching.

Excellent.
